      Carroll County Historical Society Website

Over the past years, several reprints of local histories were made so that all people could share in the knowledge of our local history. Historical tours were established; open houses and displays were made in the museum; and an annual dinner meeting has been held. These are just a few examples of our activities; we look ahead to greater things.

Interest has been shown by all age groups, and it is our hope that many people will participate in the activities of the Carroll County Historical Society.

May the hard work, the foresight, the determination, the inventiveness, and the ingenuity of our pioneer ancestors serve as an inspiration to us in preserving what we can of their rich heritage.

Delphi Courthouse Square Historic District

DCSHD PlaqueDelphi's rich architectural merit has resulted in the listing on the National Register of Historic Places of the Delphi Courthouse Square Historic District including the blocks immediately surrounding the public square and extending east to include the City Building and Delphi Public Library. Forty-three buildings are included within the boundaries, many dating from the 1850s through the 1870s. Within the district are three buildings previously listed individually on the National Register: the 1864 Old Delphi City Hall and Opera House, the 1874 Niewerth building, and the 1916 Carroll County Courthouse. Of the forty-three buildings within the district, thirty-one are listed as "contributing" and only twelve as "non-contributing." This is an unusually high percentage of contributing structures.

The nomination process began in 2007 when the Delphi Preservation Society and then Delphi Main Street cosponsored a grant application to Indiana Main Street. A lengthy process followed, as described on the Delphi Preservation Society website. On January 27, 2010, the Courthouse Square Historic District was given State Register status, and then it was accepted onto the National Register of Historic Places on May 31, 2010.

Delphi is home to the Indiana Bacon Festival held annually on the 4th Saturday of August celebrating Bacon, Bands, & Brew!  Live music, great food items featuring Indiana Kitchen brand bacon, family fun zone, craft beer & wine, and more.  Event supports over 15 non-profit organizations and attracts visitors from all over the US.
